TARBORO's 2nd SATURDAY - August 9, 2008

These are the Dog Days of Summer, and we're looking for ways to have fun and beat the heat.
The Courthouse Square will be the center of attention with food, music, entertainment and arts and crafts.

The plans are pulling together and you can't have Dog Days without Dogs, so the Top Dog Training Academy from Greenville will start off the morning (10am) with a demonstration. We've invited animal rescue groups and other nonprofit who care about dogs to participate, too, so there will be much of interest for you animal lovers. The weather is likely to be very HOT so it's probably best to leave our 4-legged best friends at home.

For those of us who wish we could go to the beach, but can't, we'll be having our own sort of Beach Party throughout the day on the Courthouse Square. The misting tents will help keep us cool while we listen to music and gobble up funnel cakes, sno-cones and all sorts of yummy festival food. Peter Heffley will return with his "rapidly becoming famous" smoked ribs and roast beef sandwiches.

We'll have craft-making tables for the kids and we're putting together some boardwalk-style games to play. The colorful T2S pedicab will be back again for pedalling rides downtown. From 6pm to 8pm artist Erica Coker will host her popular SWIG and SPLASH art class on the Courthouse Square.

We're just getting our music lined up, but we know for certain that Steadfast will be back playing the best Christian Rock in the Southeast. We have coerced Eric Towell and Friends into playing for us. Robert Leonard will bring his guitar and serenade us with some sweet country music. Mo and Juice will be here, along with Rhett Aycock , and Tonya Hinton will be singing her best gospel praise. Mrs. Savage and Soldiers Against the Darkness sings fine Christian rap and gospel. In the evening, make sure to come on down, 'cuz Tarboro rap group FLO will be starting at 8:00pm with a guest appearance by Doja Boy .
Now you know we're always looking for something special, well we have it here, all the way from Gibsonville, North Carolina, 3 Feet Up will be bringing acoustic pop enlightenment to Tarboro. John Levan, formerly of Pittsburg's Curious Gentlemen will brighten the day with acoustic funk, and, of course, the Tarboro Community Kazoo Band, will be practicing up a storm to bring you many more barely recognizable renditions of all your favorite songs.
