TARBORO's 2nd SATURDAY - JULY 12, 2008
Street fair downtown with sidewalk sales, arts & crafts, yummy festival foods and gourmet treats, and live music in the Courthouse Square starting at 10am.
Tarboro is hopping with musical entertainment, arts and crafts, yummy food and fun things to do.
We must FEED THE PEOPLE! So food vendors are important part of each event. I'm pretty sure that we'll have something to suit everybody's taste buds. We have Peter Heffley's smoked ribs and roast beef sandwiches, Linda's fried chicken and fish plates, gourmet sandwiches and paninis at the Main Street Cafe'. Vendors are lined up with funnel cakes, rootbeer floats, hotdogs, cotton candy, fried peanuts and Phili cheesesteak sandwiches. Frank Mehm will be back as our favorite Grand-pop Corn man with FREE popcorn for all. The Quigless Center will again offer their Vegetarian Luncheon serving delightful meat-free favorites like chicken-free salad and meatless barbecue.
Don't worry about the heat, the Grassroots of Tarboro want you to feel good and stay all day so we'll have shade, fans, and even misting areas to help make this a very COOL event.
A pedicab (bicycle taxi) is available for riding in style as you tour our historic downtown. (Strong pedallers needed, any volunteers?)
Of the course the Tarboro Community Kazoo Band will be back to play and there may be some competitive kazoo playing later in the day if the Davenport Sisters are up to the challenge. DO YOU KAZOO? If so, sign up and join in on the fun. Membership in the TC Kazoo Band is just $2.00 and you get your very own kazoo.
Starting at about 2:30 pm the Darling Davenport Sisters will take you on a steampunk-style FICTITIONAL Historic Walking Tour ending at the corner of Main Street and Church Street just in time (3 o'clock pm) for The Main Street Cafe' to host their Ice Cream Social and for Merci (on Church Street) to host a Wine Tasting. (something for everyone).
The arts and crafts and vendors offer an interesting mix this time not only do we have some of our favorites from past events, but new people are signing up every day. We're planning a shift change in late afternoon where some daytime vendors will be done and some Steampunk-type vendors will take their places for the evening.
The live music will start at 10am and go on throughout the day. Believin' Hearts will kick-off the show with gospel tunes and there is a chance that Richard Whitehurst (winner of the Cantaloupe Festival Karaoke Contest) will join them for a few songs. At 11am Robert Leonard of Rocky Mount will bring his guitar to charm and serenade us. The North Carolina Music Network presents Sandy River and the Music Company will be here featuring Cassie Dunn, Erin Strickland, and the sisters Amber and Amanda Rudd. JoJo of Yakitty Yak will be playing her guitar and singing, Milton Harrell from Rocky Mount will thrill us with his musical skill on the harmonica and we might even see a return visit from the Golden Platter, Milton Bullock. Our favorite local Christian Rock band STEADFAST has agreed to come back,AND if their work schedule allows it we may even get a few songs out of local rap group, Flo. There may be more... impromptu performing is not uncommon at a T2S event!
Starting at 6pm, it's time for something completely different! The Clockwork Cabaret!
Steampunk invades Tarboro with The Darling Davenport Sisters putting on a LIVE rendition of their radio show in the Courthouse Square. The Clockwork Cabaret will provide a wide range of eclectic music and many giggles for our absolute pleasure.
Did you say Neo-Victorian? Steampunk? In Tarboro? What fun!
