Tarboro is Talking - Community Discussion > Organic Food Buying Club
Michael Price ( TarboroLife.com )checked into the cost of the old IGA building, the price is $500,000 and the rent is OUTRAGEOUS!!! Which is why it has stayed empty all of this time. Rumor has it that the existing lease that has maintained that high rent will expire this summer. Perhaps the landlords/owners would then be open to considering a lower more reasonable rent just to get a good tenant.
Have you heard? A Fresh Market Store is coming soon to Greenville, NC.
I have mixed emotions about it. 1) it sounds like a better alternative than regular grocery stores or driving all the way to Wade Blvd. 2) It is not a Whole Foods Store so their selection of items such as Gluten-free foods aren't great. 3) It may not be much different than Harris Teeter (which we have closer in Rocky Mount). 4) I wonder if its placement in Greenville will lessen our chance at a Whole Foods type store in Tarboro.

Great idea! As a frequent traveler to Raleigh for buying sprees at Whole Foods, I would love to see other food options in Tarboro. My parents also travel to other locations to buy the gluten-free foods that my Dad requires due to Celiac Disease. I completely agree that there would be a market for this type of option since none exists in our area. Wouldn't the old IGA building make a great location for a Whole Foods, Fresh Market, or Wild Oats? Keep me posted!
