Here's your chance to speak your mind. What do you think would make Tarboro the best place to live in NC?

I guess it comes down to personal preferences, but a lot of what would make Tarboro better goes along the path of what you're trying to do.

A better grocery store is an absolute necessity. I know that we don't have the population to support a Whole foods or Fresh Market here, but I would settle for a Harris Teeter. The one in Rocky Mount does carry organic products, and has a much better selection of EVERYTHING...including seafood, meats and cheeses, and produce. The problem is that the products are more expensive than Food Lion.

Beyond that, we need a town population that actually wants to work in the right direction to improve things, rather than working against one another, serving their own personal interests, or rehashing the same tired ideas that go nowhere.

Betty, for both of our sakes, I hope that things continue in a positive direction, even if it is slow and steady.

I would definately support a Whole Foods market in our town. This not enough of a real choice in grocery options without having to go out of town. I always choose organic or the healthiest choice available; unfortunately, the Walmart is just it for anything beyond the norm, and the organic selections are limited at best.

I would definitely love to see an organic/health food store. I would also like to see restaurants that cater to a healthier lifestyle as well. An organic restaurant with vegetarian choices would be ideal.

And what about the movie theatre? When is that going to open? I think that could play a big role in the revitilization of Main Street.

Besides Tarboro already being a fantastic place to live, I believe there are many opportunities to grow in an upward direction. Firstly, the school system in Edgecombe County could use a lot of grassroots help. The teachers alone cannot be responsible for the education of our community children. We, as a community, should become involved with the local schools via time, energy and even money. The teachers need all types of support, and we are the ones to give it to them. If the community becomes super supportive and active in the school system, more teachers will want to come to our county to teach because they feel appreciated and supported, just to use my favorite word again. One thing I hear most often is that people want to move to a place where the schools are top notch. Tarboro has a plethora of highly intellectual, talented and interesting people who could used their energies to help make our schools the best in the state. It takes time, but it is well-worth it.
I also believe a great grocery store would be awesome, too as well as an a delicious bakery that is open on Sunday mornings.
