Open Mic & Live Music at The Unusual Shoppe

Every 2 weeks or so, on Saturday night, the core members of the Grassroots of Tarboro host We Be Jammin' at The Unusual Shoppe. We start the evening with OPEN MIC to provide a forum (and enthusiastic audience) for local talent. The performers are then followed by our own "Unusual Shoppe"-style of rockin' multi-mic karaoke. Our set-up includes a 12' x 18' stage, terrific sound system, 5 or 6 microphones and nearly 1500 songs to choose from. Group singing is the "norm" with only occasional solos. Even folks who think they won't (or can't) sing often end up on stage with the rest of us belting out the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody or Marguaritaville. It's fun, it's free and it's something to do in Tarboro.
It's a great way to "go out" on a Saturday night without wrecking the budget. There is no cover charge, no admittance fee, nothing to pay. It is just a party for friends and neighbors. Newcomers are always welcomed.
We have set up a cozy lounge area if you just want to hang out and socialize. We even have a corner of the lounge setup for the kids with a TV, VCR and hundreds of movies. (No need to hire a baby-sitter, just bring the kids with you.)
Some snacks, bottled water and soft drinks are sometimes available to purchase, but folks are always encouraged to:
